Construction began this year to restore the east wing of the building, 6000 sq. feet. This space was formally the kitchen, lunch counter, private dining room and reception area. Many of the beautiful arches and vaulted ceiling were destroyed during the 50s. These have now been completely rebuilt to their original plans. Allan Affeldt, owner of La Posada was fortunate to have found all of the original plans from the 20s. One of the most beautiful features of the hotel was the reception desk and "News Stand" as it was called. This area and the lobby have now been restored.

What was once a private dining room is now The Martini Lounge. In the bar we will transport you back to the era of The Super Chief. A copper topped bar with its solid walnut back creates an elegant art deco space reminiscent of the days of the great train. From the bar you will be able to cool off after a hot day or sit outside on the terrace and view the trains. Relax with one of our Martinis, iced Margaritas or enjoy one of the local Micro brews on tap. Jumbo cups of cappuccino are also available at the bar.

A piano will provide background music from the 30s, 40s, and 50s.

The Turquoise Room will be the setting for breakfast lunch and dinner. This space faces the tracks and is fronted by a Spanish Colonnade. It was the former dining area where during the hotel’s busiest era 1000 meals a day were served. With its high beamed ceilings and windows on two sides, it is the perfect setting for today’s restaurant. Seating 95 guests in comfortable booths or on chairs designed to reflect Mary Colter’s original design, it is the perfect room in which to dine.

In addition to the dining room and lounge, the hotel has four other meeting rooms. They are the Colter Room, the Halliday Room, the Gallery and the Depot.

The Colter Room will face out on to the new Plaza. This is due to be completed by the spring of 2001 and will seat 160 guests. Both the Halliday Room and the Gallery will seat 80 guests each. The Depot is a great space for parties and receptions for over 200 guests.

We will now provide complete catering services to the hotel for weddings and corporate events. This is the ideal place for seminars and retreats.
