Rated among the nation's best Italian restaurants, Valentino
is generally considered to have the best wine list outside Western
Europe. In the 1980s, owner Piero Selvaggio introduced Los Angeles to
this style of light, modern Italian cuisine, including superb prosciutto,
fried calamari, lobster cannelloni, fresh broiled porcini mushrooms, and
osso buco. He continues to reinvent this culinary palace, which is
currently decorated to effect a Tuscan feel, with glazed walls
integrated with gold leaf and comfortable yet elegant furniture that
doesn't try to upstage the gorgeous food presentation.
